Seminal Moments, Reconstructed explores queerness, chronic illness, love, and friendship, and uses mixed media details to draw parallels to specific literary, cultural, and personal details. This series traces through a time where myself and my loved ones navigated disability, illness, and queerness. During the time I started working on this series, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, and my roommate and close friend was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, a rare and devastating bone cancer. These paintings create a space to work through these experiences in a way that words often fail to. My hope is that this body of work creates a space for vulnerable conversations on love and pain, on identity and justice. Despite the gravity of these topics, this series is ultimately about claiming moments of joy--finding the bright pink moments of joy and friendship and love amidst the chaos and pausing to celebrate them.
